Unknown to us at the time but we had conceived in late December. Early January came when I usually have my period and it wasn't normal. I didn't think much of it figuring it had to do with the change in my body since we were trying to conceive and recently going off the pill. On January 20th when I had realized still no period I told Jason it might be possible that I was pregnant. We had bought tests previously and I decided to test that night. We were anxious and trying not to get our hopes up in case it came back negative but it was very difficult because we hoping for a positive.
We were in shock, giddy and couldn't believe it; It came back positive! One line was lighter which the test says can happen but I wanted to retest to make sure. Jason went to store and we decided to test again the next day. The same results happened on the 2nd test, one light line and one clear as day line. We laughed in disbelief that it could happen twice in a row and we decided to take a third test in the morning. Morning came, I took the test and there was no doubt, both dark lines. We were sooo excited and I scheduled my first Dr appt.
We knew we wanted to hold off on telling everyone until the first Dr appointment to make sure everything looked well. The few people we had to tell right away was my mom who has helped me so immensely through this crazy time with all her extensive knowledge , and my sister Danielle whom I see very often was a little difficult to keep it from since we talk daily but it was fun to have someone else to talk about it with. Of course all were thrilled.
Nausea started about a week after we tested which was a huge surprise since I felt fine previously. It wasn't as bad as I thought but it was good either. I pretty much kept an even nausea through out the day which was annoying but as long as I didn't move too much I was okay. Its about the same still and I'm hoping for some relief soon as the second trimester approaches.
My first Dr appointment was on February 3 at the Alhambra Sutter Health medical center. I was so nervous and had read a lot on what to expect but still wasn't sure. Jason came with me and we waited anxiously to see the Nurse Practitioner. Everyone at the office was really nice which was comforting. They brought us in and after a couple of tests, she did the ultra sound.
Here is our baby! She estimated the time to be 8wks and 2 days and by size 7wks and 5 days. She said everything looked good. Estimated due date Sept 13-17

She was able to show us and let us listen to the heart beat... I still cant believe it. Listening to it made it so much more real and amazing for me. I couldn't help but giggle. After the ultrasound, we spoke with her a bit and I went down to have my blood taken.
OMG is all I can say.. Not only do I hate needles but they had to take 5 vials! Jason stood there and said the last one was HUGE lol. I couldn't look, there was no way. I knew it was necessary but it really felt like it took forever.
After the appointment we knew that weekend we were ready to tell everyone. Jason called his parents to set up dinner for that night and we met with his sister a couple days later to tell them the exciting news. Jason let our roommate Matt know and I decided to post a Note/Bulletin on Facebook and Myspace to let everyone else know instead of trying to tell people individually.
Here was the announcement: I titled it letting the cat out of the bag..
"Some of you know.. Some of you don't but we're finally letting everyone know.Jason and I are having a baby! We decided in November to start trying and it looks like late December we conceived. Which explains why we have been home bodies lately lol. We didn't want to make a big deal of it in case there were complications but we feel very fortunate that there weren't. I am currently 8 weeks pregnant, we had our first Dr appt last week and it was AMAZING!!We got to listen to the heartbeat and see the ultrasound of the little baby. Everything looks good and healthy, I still can't believe how amazing it was. We are just absolutely thrilled to finally be able to tell everyone and hopefully get to see some of you this weekend. Some of you that have babies can make sense of the ultrasound but if you cant, its the bubble inside the black bubble lol... mom do you want to break it down for us? Love you all!!"
The response was very positive and everyone was excited. It was nice to be able to get it out there and not do the word of mouth thing.
I am now at 10 wks and have my next appointment set for march 6th!
I've found some great sites that tell me whats going on and I thought I would share.
Size at 10 wks

Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy. If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.
